Important information about your accounts and services.

Your new CU SoCal Membership will continue with the financial services you enjoy today as a Cal Bear Member. On February 1, 2023, your accounts automatically transferred; however, some services will require additional set up.

Bill Pay

Continue using Cal Bear Bill Pay through 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on January 25. Please note that payments scheduled to be made after that time will not occur. We apologize for any inconvenience and suggest that you make alternative payment arrangements during our transition period. Also, please be aware that you will no longer have access to your current Cal Bear bill payment history. Please print your history from Cal Bear’s Online Banking by January 25 for your records.1

Starting February 1, existing and new Bill Pay users will need to enroll in CU SoCal’s free Online Banking to use Bill Pay. Simply follow the steps within Online or Mobile Banking to start using Bill Pay.

Branches and ATMs

The existing Cal Bear branches will close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31 and will reopen on Wednesday, February 1 as CU SoCal branches with the same service hours and team members you enjoy today. You will also have full access to 17 additional CU SoCal branches and will continue to have access to more than 5,600 shared branches throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and military bases around the globe, as well as more than 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs. Click here to view in depth branch and atm information.

Change in Terms and Fee Schedule

Starting February 1, your credit union Membership account terms and schedule of fees will change. You
will find information including a new Schedule of Fees and About Your Accounts brochure on our Member Disclosures page.

Checking

Checking account users will receive a free box of CU SoCal corporate-image checks by March 15. Please start using your new checks upon receipt. Your Cal Bear checks will continue to clear until August 1, 2023.

Direct Deposits and Automatic Payments

Direct deposits and automatic payments (such as your payroll, Social Security, and gym membership fees) will
continue without interruption until August 1, 2023. However, you will be required to update your credit union account numbers and routing number before that time. On or after February 1, 2023, please update these accounts using CU SoCal’s routing and transit number and your new Member number. You will receive your new CU SoCal Member number shortly before February 1, 2023.

Update account information with Social Security by calling 1.800.772.1213, or by visiting www.ssa.gov. To make the update, you will need your Cal Bear account and routing number, as well as your new CU SoCal account and routing number. You will receive your new CU SoCal account numbers shortly before February 1. If you would like assistance, please let us know. We’re happy to help.

Credit Cards

By January 15, 2023, existing credit card holders will receive a new CU SoCal Visa® credit card, which can be activated as early as 6 a.m. on February 1. Additional information will be mailed to Members who have a Cal Bear credit card.

Debit Cards

Debit cards will be replaced with a CU SoCal Debit Card. A new CU SoCal Visa Debit Card will be mailed to you before February 1 to be activated for use starting at 6 a.m. on February 1. Provide your new card information to companies that automatically bill your card and online retailers where you’ve saved your information as early as February 1.

Continue using your Cal Bear debit card until 2 p.m. on January 31. At 2 p.m., Cal Bear cards will be deactivated, and recurring payments scheduled will no longer post.

We apologize for the brief period of time you will not have card access between 2 p.m. on January 31 and 6 a.m. on February 1. Please plan accordingly.1

eStatements

All Cal Bear Members will receive a paper statement for the period ending January 31, including those who currently receive Cal Bear eStatements. Due to regulatory requirements, you must re-enroll on or after February 1 to continue receiving eStatements. Select View Documents within Online or Mobile Banking to enroll in eStatements.

CU SoCal charges a standard paper statement fee of $2; however, this fee will be waived through May 31, 2023. Beginning June 1, the standard $2 fee may be applied to your account. Please review the Schedule of Fees to learn how the fee may be waived.

Internal Account-to-Account and Account-to-Loan Transfers

There will be no interruption to your Account-to-Account and Account-to-Loan transfers that are made outside of Bill Pay. Transfers scheduled within Bill Pay will need to be re-established on or after February 1. Please see the “Bill Pay” section for additional details.

Loans

There will be no changes to loan types. However, some changes may be made to loan terms and added loan protection policies. Members impacted by these changes will be mailed additional information.

Membership Number

A prefix of seven (7) may be added to your existing Member number to make your new CU SoCal Member number. If your Membership number already has ten (10) digits and begins with a seven (7), your Membership number will remain the same.

Online Banking and Mobile Banking

Your Cal Bear Online and Mobile Banking will no longer be available after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Please enroll in CU SoCal’s free Online Banking as early as February 1. 

Download CU SoCal’s Mobile Banking App for your Apple or Android device after you have enrolled in CU SoCal’s Online Banking.

Overdraft Protection and Courtesy Pay

Overdrafts from your savings to checking, and line of credit to checking will continue in the order you have designated.

If you have opted into Cal Bear’s Courtesy Pay program to authorize the credit union to pay, rather than return, non-sufficient fund transactions on your everyday debit and ATM card transactions, this service will automatically continue as CU SoCal Courtesy pay. Learn more about Courtesy Pay here.

Share Insurance

Your shares will continue to be protected by federal deposit insurance provided through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), a division of the National Credit Union Administration and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government.
