Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Apple Pay

Apple Pay allows you to pay for your purchases with a supported IOS device by holding your phone near a contactless reader at participating merchants.
You can add all CU SoCal Visa credit/debit cards to Apple Pay.

One-time Passcode (OTP) is used to prevent wallet enrollment fraud as well as improve the Member experience while enrolling in Apple Pay. You will receive a One-Time Passcode via email or text during the enrollment process. If there is an issue during enrollment, you will receive a message to contact the Credit Union to tokenize your card.

Apple Pay is integrated in the Wallet app, which comes pre-installed on your Apple device. You can open the Wallet app, by tapping add card or the plus sign at the top right of the screen, select “Credit or Debit Card”, scan the card with your phone’s camera or manually enter the card information.

You can pay for purchases with Apple Pay by using your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. You can use Apple Pay wherever you see one of these logos:
 

Pay with iPhone with Face ID:

  • To use the default card, double-click the side button
  • ​Glance at iPhone to authenticate with Face ID, or enter your passcode
  • Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader until Done appears, and a checkmark on the display

Pay with iPhone with Touch ID:

  • To use your default card, rest your finger on Touch ID. 

  • Hold the top of the iPhone near the contactless reader until Done appears, and a checkmark on the display.

Pay with Apple Watch:

  • To use your default card, double-click the side button

  • Hold the display of the Apple Watch near the contactless reader

  • The device will gently tap or vibrate

When you use Apple Pay, your card number is not stored on your phone or given to the merchant. A unique digital code is created specifically for your device

Yes. You can use Apple Pay to pay within apps, when you see Apple Pay as a payment option with either of these purchase buttons:



At check out, tap the Apple Pay button or choose Apple Pay as the payment method. Check billing, shipping, and contact information to make sure that they are correct. If you want to pay with a different card, tap   next to the card. If you need to enter billi Iing, and contact information on your iPhone or iPad, Apple Pay will store that information, so you will not need to enter it again. Confirm the payment. When the payment is successful, you will see Done and a checkmark on the screen.
  • iPhone or iPad with Face ID: Double-click the side button, then use Face ID or passcode
  • iPhone or iPad without Face ID: Use Touch ID or passcode.
  • Apple Watch: Double-click the side button

You can add up to 12 cards on one device to Apple Pay.

The same card number can be added up to 10 devices. Devices do not share cards, so if you would like to use the same card number on two different devices, you will need to add the card on each device separately.

If you have the Find My iPhone app downloaded to your device, you can use it to remotely lock your device. Additionally, you can contact the credit union for cards accessed to Apple Pay and the token can be disabled.

If your card(s) are lost or stolen, you should contact CU SoCal immediately.  We can help replace your lost or stolen card(s) as well as ensure your lost or stolen card(s) in Google Pay is replaced so that no more purchases can be made. You should also remove the lost or stolen card(s) from your devices.

iPhones with Face ID, iPhone models with Touch ID except for iPhone 5S, iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad, and iPad mini models with Touch ID or Face ID, Apple Watch Series 1 and 2 and later, Apple Watch (1st generation), Mac models with Touch ID.

No. Apple Pay does not require an internet connection. Apple Pay uses NFC Near field communication technology. It does not use Wi-Fi or cellular technology. Apple Pay will work even if you put your iPhone 6 into Airplane Mode. Airplane Mode disables both the Wi-Fi and cellular internet.

Yes. When you make purchases with Apple Pay, using your CU SoCal Visa debit card, CU SoCal Classic, or Platinum credit card. You will continue to earn Dream Points for transaction(s).

Apple Pay is accepted in-stores, vending machines, trains, taxies, apps, and websites. You can see a full list of merchants who accept Apple Pay at https://www.apple.com/apple-pay/where-to-use/.

No. CU SoCal does not charge a fee to use Apple Pay.
