News About Your CU SoCal Accounts
You may have heard recent news reports regarding an online security vulnerability called Heartbleed.
Please note that your CU SoCal accounts are not affected by the Heartbleed Bug.
We have evaluated our systems and are pleased to report that none of them are vulnerable to the Heartbleed Bug—your CU SoCal accounts remain safe and secure. For your information, the Heartbleed Bug compromises systems using OpenSSL encryption, an open source software widely used to encrypt Web communications. CU SoCal does not utilize Open SSL to encrypt web communications.
The Heartbleed scare is a reminder of the importance to change passwords frequently and use different passwords for different sites. By choosing different passwords for different sites, you are less vulnerable if a password is compromised due to a security breach. We also suggest choosing passwords with a mixture of at least six letters and numbers. Experts also recommend not selecting passwords that are actual words.
