CU SOCAL HELPING HANDS GIVES FOOD TO FULLERTON FAMILIES

Credit Union Charity Teams Up With Giving Children Hope to Help Families in Need.

Buena Park, CA. June 22, 2013—Due to financial hardships, many families in the Fullerton community struggle on a daily basis to purchase basic necessities. CU SoCal Helping Hands, an employee inspired charity established by Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal), confronted this difficulty head-on by selecting 30 of the city’s neediest families to be food recipients at its ninth Annual Food Distribution Day in June.

A special event hosted each spring, the Annual Food Distribution Day provides food and other household items to needy families in Southern California. On Saturday, June 22, months of planning and preparation culminated at the Giving Children Hope offices in Buena Park. There, families gathered for a special barbeque and carnival celebration staged by CU SoCal employees from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees were served hot lunches, invited to play carnival games, given bags of food and fresh produce, and selected household items that included linens, cooking utensils, vacuum cleaners, reading glasses, and over-the-counter medicine from the Giving Children Hope warehouse.

“We are happy to be able to give back to our community,” stated Alissa Guerrero, CU SoCal Helping Hands Board Chairperson. “There is a great need here and the economy continues to have a negative effect on many families. But, with generous contributions from our many volunteers who opened their hearts and gave their time, we were able to hopefully make a difference for the families here today.”

“We are privileged to serve this community six days a week,” stated CU SoCal Fullerton Branch Manager, Noel Burch. “The opportunity to give back in this way means a great deal to us.”

In addition to the Annual Food Distribution event, CU SoCal Helping Hands donated $10,000 to Giving Children Hope and CU SoCal employees volunteered their afternoon preparing hundreds of food bags for distribution in the Giving Children Hope warehouse.

Dave Gunderson, CU SoCal President/CEO, thanked the many volunteers for their hard work. “It’s an honor to be able to put the credit union philosophy of ‘People Helping People’ into action and help build better lives for so many. A simple thank you cannot describe the gratitude I feel for those who generously supported this worthwhile cause today.”
