Pico Rivera, CA—Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal) recently put a spotlight on the importance of finances at El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera. A total of 50 students from Mr. Elias’s economics class and members of the El Rancho High School Entrepreneur Club participated in a one-hour, after-school workshop to learn practical approaches to money management.
“We are very excited about our involvement at our local high schools," stated Melissa Manning, CU SoCal Community Education Manager. "It’s a privilege to bring an interactive, student-friendly, financial educational program to our local high schools. We are honored to have this opportunity to directly impact students as they learn to navigate an ever-changing world, where good financial decision-making is a critical skill.”
The CU SoCal team of instructors worked with Mr. Elias to develop a curriculum that was tailored to the unique needs of the student body that incorporated core concepts of saving, borrowing, budgeting, investing, credit, and insurance.
“Our primary goal is to enhance the financial skills and knowledge to build a foundation for a financially healthy community with a bright future,” Manning said.
CU SoCal has a long history of actively promoting financial literacy in their community. The community credit union regularly hosts free public workshops at its branches throughout Orange County and the San Gabriel Valley as well as at local schools and businesses. Topics range from saving and investing to purchasing a house or a car. For more information about upcoming workshops, visit www.CUSoCal.org.
