Brea, CA—Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal) has expanded its statewide ATM network through a new partnership with Walgreens stores. Starting November 1, 2011, CU SoCal Members can access ATMs free of service charges to withdraw cash and check account balances at more than 560 Walgreens stores throughout California—many of which are open 24-hours.
“At CU SoCal, we are always searching for ways to better serve and add greater convenience for our Members. Walgreens is an excellent partner for this venture,” stated President/CEO, Dave Gunderson. “They have a high traffic volume, great brand recognition, are well-merchandised, and are strategically-located. Walgreens customers benefit from the added convenience of an ATM, and CU SoCal Members benefit from having more free access to cash almost everywhere they travel in California.”
The new Walgreens partnership will also benefit CU SoCal’s employee-inspired charity, Southern California Helping Hands (SCHH). Two cents of every transaction fee will be donated directly to SCHH. In addition, Walgreens has agreed to donate 10,000 bags to SCHH in the spring for their Annual Food Distribution event.
“This partnership is really exciting for us,” stated SCHH Board Chair, Alissa Charlton. “We want to build better lives and make a difference in our community. Partnering with Walgreens is helping us do that. Not only will the additional funds be a huge help, but when you have nearly 150,000 pounds of food to give, you can never have enough bags. We are so thankful they have graciously chosen to support us in these ways.”
The new standalone ATMs are located inside the Walgreens stores in an easily accessible area, typically near the front door.
CU SoCal also partners with CO-OP ATM Network which provides CU SoCal Members with access to 28,000 free ATMs nationwide, which is 10,000 more ATMs than the largest bank.
