Stay Safe and Vigilant: Protect Yourself from Fraud After the Southern California Fires
We hope you and your loved ones are safe following the recent fires in Southern California. Unfortunately, disasters like these often lead to an increase in fraudulent schemes that target vulnerable individuals. It’s important to stay alert and watch for the following scams:
- Fake Contractors: Before hiring a contractor, always verify their license and ask for references. Avoid making large upfront payments before any work begins.
- Insurance Fraud: Be cautious of individuals offering to assist with claims for a fee. Always reach out to your insurance company directly to verify any offers of help.
- Fraudulent Charities: Scammers may pose as charitable organizations seeking donations. Make sure to verify the legitimacy of any charity before contributing.
- FEMA Scams: Fraudsters may impersonate FEMA officials to request personal information or money. FEMA staff and inspectors never charge money for service
Your financial security is our priority, and we are here to support you during this challenging time. If you have any concerns or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 866.287.6225 to reach a live CU SoCal representative Monday-Friday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
