CU SoCal Courtesy Pay

What you need to know about overdrafts and overdraft fees.

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover overdrafts in two ways:

1. We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account. Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal) refers to this as CU SoCal Courtesy Pay.

2. We also offer overdraft protection plans such as a link to a savings account—which may be less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.

This notice explains our standard overdraft practices.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following transactions:

• Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number.
• Automatic bill payments.

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to (see below):

• ATM transactions.
• Everyday debit card transactions.

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What if I want CU SoCal to authorize and pay overdrafts on my ATM and everyday debit card transactions?

If you also want us to authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM and everyday debit card transactions, print and complete the CU SoCal Courtesy Pay Authorization Form, mail it to P.O. Box 76000 Anaheim, CA 92809, fax it to 714.671.2753, drop it off at a CU SoCal branch, or call 866.287.6225. Alternatively, when filling out our online Membership application, you have the option to answer yes to the CU SoCal Courtesy Pay question to receive an electronic form confirming your choice to receive this service. If you are a current Member who has opted in using Online Banking, no further action is needed.

What if I have opted in and I no longer want Credit Union of Southern California to authorize and pay overdrafts on my ATM and everyday debit card transactions?

If you no longer want us to authorize and pay overdrafts on your ATM and everyday debit card transactions, you may: 1) call us at 866.287.6225, 2) when logged into Online Banking, go to Check Services, then select the Courtesy Pay tab to unselect covered accounts, 3) visit one of our branches, or 4) write us at: P.O. Box 76000 Anaheim, CA 92809.
