Whittier, CA - Established by a group of Whittier school employees as
Whittier Area School Federal Credit Union, Credit Union of Southern
California (CU SoCal) has been serving the financial community since
1954.
CU SoCal founders started the credit union in their homes and began
the tradition of service and product excellence. They later expanded to
a single house on Whittier Blvd before moving to a building on Greenleaf
Ave in Whittier, which continues to serve as one of the credit union's
four branch locations. Today, with 36,000 Members, $355 million in
assets, and four branches in Whittier, Pico Rivera, El Monte and City of
Industry, the tradition of service excellence endures.
CU SoCal's staff will celebrate the Credit Union's anniversary on the
original charter date of April 16th. Numerous events throughout the year
will recognize CU SoCal's 50th anniversary. The celebration kick-off
included a special edition annual report and the 50th annual meeting.
Friendly Hills Country Club was the site for CU SoCal's 50th annual
meeting on March 23rd. The 230 attendees participated in a raffle with
an assortment of prizes ranging from a $500 travel certificate to a big
screen TV. The annual meeting included a display of past memorabilia and
the election of board of directors. A special video presentation was
shown featuring one of the credit union's founders, Joe Incorvaia and
several long-time Members of the credit union, including the second
Member to join the credit union.
"We wanted this year's annual meeting to reflect the past 50 years of
growth as well as show our appreciation to our Members and founders. We
understand that only with the continued support of our Members, board of
directors, management, and staff, can we continue to sustain our
success", said Dave Gunderson CU SoCal's President/CEO.
CU SoCal plans to continue its growth through additional product and
service offerings like free online bill payment, Visa history online,
and new lending products. According to Gunderson, CU SoCal is well
positioned to move ahead and he eagerly looks forward to another fifty
years of service.
